From Watching to Creating: A Drone Videography Workshop at CNEC Lau Wing Sang Secondary School
INSPIRE Education ran a four-session drone videography workshop for the secondary students of CNEC Lau Wing Sang Secondary School, held on 19 May, 26 May, and 28 May 2026 (1.5 hours each) and 23 June 2026 (2 hours). The workshop was designed to take students from the ground up — understanding the basics and rules of flying drones, and learning how to shoot video with them.
From Flight Basics to Visual Creation
For many secondary students, "drone videography" is a concept that is both familiar and distant — they may have heard of it, yet rarely get the chance to film their own video works. This workshop offered exactly that rare, hands-on opportunity.
The course was led by our instructor Gordon, who introduced the foundations of camera movements and their applications step by step, alongside practical shooting skills. Teaching was carried out mainly with the DJI Flip and DJI Neo drones — approachable, easy-to-handle models that let students build confidence safely.
Teaching Tailor-Made for Secondary Students
We understand the learning needs of secondary students, so both our teaching approach and materials were tailor-made for them. Course materials featured a large quantity of photos and real examples, complemented by ample hands-on practice — fostering practical skills through doing, rather than staying at the level of theory.
Guidance From an Industry Expert: Professor Adrian Wong
For the final session, we were honoured to invite Professor Adrian Wong, who brings extensive industry experience, to provide detailed guidance on drone filming. Under his professional direction, students were able to apply their learning outcomes to complete their own video works.
Beyond practical guidance, Professor Adrian Wong also shared his insights on the future development of the drone filming industry, giving students a broader understanding of and imagination for this emerging field.

Conclusion
This workshop did more than equip the students of CNEC Lau Wing Sang Secondary School with the fundamentals of drone flight and aerial videography. More importantly, it moved students from "watching" to "creating" — completing their own video works with their own hands. Through the instructor's step-by-step teaching and the professional guidance of an industry expert, students not only learned the techniques but were also inspired to explore visual creation and the application of technology. This is exactly the educational philosophy INSPIRE has always pursued: making learning not merely the transfer of knowledge, but the spark of genuine creativity.
