2025 Generative AI Experience Workshop — HKFYG Leadership Institute
We held a unique Generative AI Experience Workshop for the HKFYG Leadership Institute, blending generative AI technology with leadership training. This intensive 3-hour course helped participants master AI skills while developing innovative technology-driven leadership thinking.
Innovative Course Design Merging Tech & Leadership
Unlike traditional leadership training, this workshop used generative AI as an entry point, allowing future leaders to experience how technology tools can enhance team effectiveness.
Part 1: AI Foundation Building
The workshop opened with interactive discussion on AI applications in daily life, followed by a systematic introduction to generative AI history and machine learning concepts, particularly the distinction between supervised and unsupervised learning.

Crucially, the instructor drew parallels between AI capabilities and leadership qualities — just as effective leaders must listen to and understand team needs, generative AI systems require precise instructions to perform well. Through hands-on practice on the POE platform, participants experienced different AI models and learned to select appropriate tools for specific goals — the same judgment leaders need for resource allocation.
Part 2: Prompt Art & Strategic Thinking
This session explored prompt writing techniques while connecting them to a leadership core skill — clear vision communication. Using the "Clarity, Context, Format" principles and a six-step method, participants discovered striking similarities with team goal-setting and task delegation. The instructor emphasised that iterating on prompts mirrors how leaders must adjust strategy based on team feedback.
Part 3: Creative Practice & Visual Communication
Visual communication is essential for leaders. Participants learned to transform text into compelling images and then into animated videos — training their ability to make abstract concepts tangible, crucial when communicating visions to stakeholders. The instructor also stressed AI ethics, reminding future leaders to maintain critical thinking.
Part 4: Team Project — Eco App Development
The highlight was a collaborative team project. Groups discussed environmental issues, selected a topic, and used POE's app creator to develop simple HTML applications. This tested multiple leadership skills:
- Team coordination: assigning roles so every member contributes
- Innovative problem-solving: conceiving unique, feasible solutions
- Project management: completing concept-to-product within limited time
Participants successfully created an environmental awareness quiz game using AI technology, demonstrating both technical capability and social responsibility.

Profound Learning Outcomes
- Technical: mastered generative AI basics and prompt engineering
- Leadership: strengthened communication, innovation and teamwork through AI learning
- Social responsibility: applied technology to environmental issues
- Critical thinking: learned to use AI wisely while maintaining independent judgment
Participant feedback showed they not only gained practical AI skills but understood how to apply them in leadership practice. Many said the experience gave them a new perspective on "technology leadership". This workshop successfully demonstrated how to organically combine cutting-edge tech education with leadership training, pioneering a new path for cultivating the next generation of leaders.
