Smart Campus Training Programme — Innovation & Technology Enrichment Course (Teachers) Day One
INSPIRE instructors delivered an Innovation & Technology Enrichment Course for teachers as part of the Smart Campus Training Programme, helping educators apply innovative technology to education to keep pace with modern teaching and improve teaching efficiency. The course took place on 11 May at the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (Tsing Yi), covering cybersecurity for classroom and school management, and generative AI — its development progress and a hands-on experience creating personalised AI assistants using POE.

AI platforms offer various capabilities such as accepting images, text, and document descriptions to perform language recognition, text identification, prediction, and more. The instructor hoped that teachers would come away from the course understanding generative AI applications, the fundamentals and significance of large language models, discovering practical AI use cases on campus, leveraging AI to predict outcomes, creating and deploying personalised AI bots, and finding inspiration for improving their own teaching methods through modern technology and AI.

The course covered the main areas and concepts of AI, including its two major branches: generative AI and predictive AI, as well as deep learning neural networks. The instructor also introduced current primary AI applications such as generating text, music, artwork, and 3D models, and provided a more detailed look at natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs). NLP is a field of AI focused on enabling machines to understand, interpret, and generate human natural language. LLMs are deep learning-based AI models trained on massive text datasets, capable of generating human-style text, answering questions, conducting conversations, and possessing powerful language understanding and generation capabilities.
As an extension, the instructor introduced prompt engineering — providing personalised suggestions and guidance to help users make better decisions or take action, such as grammar correction and product recommendations on online platforms.

At the end of the course, the instructor guided the attending teachers in creating personalised AI assistants using POE, walking them step by step through the process and encouraging teachers to reference AI assistants made by others for inspiration.
