2021 TWGHs Kap Yan Directors' College — Drone Workshop

INSPIRE instructors led a drone flight course at TWGHs Kap Yan Directors' College. The course attracted 15 students and ran for 10 hours, including drone knowledge lectures and hands-on drone experience workshops.

In the drone course, students first learned about drone technology and related STEM knowledge, including drone structure, flight principles and driving programmes. They then familiarised themselves with the safety practices and Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department regulations required when operating drones, to avoid any dangers or regulatory violations.

After mastering basic drone knowledge and relevant regulations, students underwent indoor manual control training with small drones under the supervision of instructors and teaching assistants. They used Tello EDU for simple flight tasks, exploring and familiarising themselves with controller operations in preparation for outdoor flight. Following indoor trial flights, the instructor introduced the professional drone DJI Go 4 app along with GPS, VPS, IMU, RTH and battery information.

Finally, students completed manual control training with the professional DJI Mavic series, helping them become familiar with drone handling. They also practised cinematic panning and aerial photography techniques, gaining initial knowledge and operational experience in drone filming.

Under the guidance of two instructors, students completed outdoor drone filming tasks. The instructors then taught students how to use Premiere Pro/DaVinci Resolve for basic editing, mixing, subtitling, transitions and colour grading, enabling students to produce their own final works.
